Dr. Vamshi Balasetti, neurointerventionalist, received his medical degree from Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences in India. He went on to complete both his Internal Medicine internship and Neurology residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where he served as Chief Resident. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at Washington University St. Louis School of Medicine and an Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Missouri Columbia.
Dr. Balasetti is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Heart Association and Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology and vascular neurology.
He earned multiple honors to include the Program Director’s Award, the American Academy of Neurology Resident Scholarship and the Association of Indian Neurologists in America Trainee Award for Best Research in 2017. Dr. Balasetti was also selected as the 43rd American Society of Neuroradiology’s 2020 Qureshi Award recipient for best research.
Dr. Balasetti is one of Central Alabama’s only neurointerventionalists who specializes in the life-saving Thrombectomy procedure. This minimally invasive surgical technique can remove a blood clot from an artery or vein during an aneurysm.
His clinical interests include stroke, carotid disease, intracranial atherosclerotic disease, intracranial hemorrhage, intracranial aneurysms, brain arteriovenous malformations, arteriovenous fistulas, and spinal arteriovenous malformations.
The proud parents of one son, Dr. Balasetti and his wife also enjoy traveling and particularly love trying new and unique cuisines. During his spare time, Dr. Balasetti is also an avid hiker and enjoys recreational photography.
