Dr. Nina Nelson-Garrett received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas and completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. She also has a Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

No stranger to Montgomery, Dr. Nelson-Garrett has been practicing medicine for nearly 20 years, with clinical interests in General Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Liver Disease. Board certified in Gastroenterology, she is a proud member of the American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, Medical Association of the State of Alabama and National Medical Association.

Her awards and honors include Commissioner on The Medical Licensure Commission of The State of Alabama, Ida B. Wells Humanitarian Award (Montgomery), NAACP (Alabama Chapter), Baptist Medical Center East Advisory Board Member, Baptist Medical Center East Chief of Staff, Baptist Health Medical Ethics Committee Chairman, novelist and 4x Finalist for 2019 American Fiction Awards.

A widower with two adult children, Dr. Nelson-Garrett enjoys reading, painting, writing and traveling with her family in her spare time.

Her favorite quote comes from 1 Corinthians 2:9, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, The things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
