Dr. Watkins earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University’s Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education in Salem-Winston, North Carolina. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Dr. Watkins went on to complete an Ear, Nose and Throat Internship and Residency at the National Naval Medical Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center) in Bethesda, Maryland. While there, he was awarded the distinguished Ruska Award for research involving electron microscopy.
Board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Watkins is a proud member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He has clinical interests in sinus surgery, thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, congenital defects and masses of the neck. He also specializes in surgical excision and repair of skin cancers, tumors of the salivary glands and neck. Additional interests include nerve stimulator implant for sleep apnea, hyoid suspension for sleep apnea, ear surgery including ear tubes in children and adults, stepedectomy/stapedotomy for hearing loss, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and nasal septum surgery.
A former motorcycle enthusiast, Dr. Watkins also enjoys a variety of hobbies including, bio pharmacology, astrophysics, computer gaming, chess, marksmanship, animal rescue and spending time with his wife and adult children in his spare time. He is a firm believer that “You never make the shot you don’t take.”
